RawRRR Food Weight Loss – Another 2010 Challenge lol
Yep, here I am again. I actually recorded two videos before this one but procrastinated so badly at having to learn video editing on a mac when I’m used to a pc, that they never saw the light of day!
Anyway today I decided enough was enough and I have to get over myself and push through the multitude of little challenges and JUST DO IT. So here it is – the first video in my latest 2010 weight loss challenge and gawd I found it embarrassing to do (you’ll see me turn bright red) and well.. I’m horrified at the state I’ve eaten and drank myself into. I can’t make changes until I acknowledge things though eh!
I need to make a specific plan I know.. if I have a plan I can then get organised and then I won’t need to ‘think’ about food every day – just one day a week.
I am not going to say I’m going to be 100% raw vegan. I am going to aim for 80% and hope to surpass it.
I will be eating a lot of fresh fruit, making green juices and as soon as I have new blender (blog post to follow about that saga), I’ll be creating lots of delicious green smoothies as I truly think they are the best thing ever.
I’m also going to get my raw food recipe books out and video them as I create. If you’ve seen previous videos you’ll have a good idea that it doesn’t always go according to plan hahaha.
Indulgence will also be part of my repertoire this time. In the form of raw icecreams and chocolate and some of the denser foods in my dehydrator for when I crave different mouth feels or something ‘naughty’.
Then of course there’s the question of exercise… (moves swiftly on)
So for the record, here’s my weight and measurements for Day 1
Weight: 10st 10lb / 150lb / 68kg
Body Fat: 35%
Chest: 40″ / 101.5cm
Waist: 34″ / 86.5cm
Belly: 40″ / 101.5cm
Thigh: 23.5″ / 60cm
Arm: 12″ / 30.5cm
I’m 5′ 1.5″ / 156cm tall
Please tell me your favourite recipes and I’ll give them ago. Thanks for your support!

Ok…I’ve just somehow deleted my whole comment and am too lazy to repeat the whole thing except that…I haven’t checked your blog in a really long time, I click on it tonight and voila!…you’ve posted an update! We must be on the same ‘healthy living’ cycle or something. Great to see you back and I’m off now to watch your video…I’ll share some of my fav. recipes with you soon and hopefully you’ll share yours too!

Hiya Dawn! Lol, great minds think alike huh
Thanks for bothering to leave another comment, I’m not sure if I would have been that patient (remembering me literally jumping up and down in frustration when I’ve done that before – drama queen- moi?). Have been having a blender discussion today and that reminds me, I need to send an email… oh and maybe put together a post about it too. Can’t wait to see your fave recipes, I need to pick just one and do it tomorrow and film it. Am doing hodge podge juices at the moment and snacking on fruit and need to get MUCH more organised. It’ll happen.. *visualises reallllly hard* lol

Ruf and I eat Nakd bars and MULU raw chocolate (but not in huge quantities) every day as a treat. With the chocolate, you just can’t eat it like a bar of Cadburys. One square is orgasmic enough
He’s a vegan but, whilst I do enjoy the food, I just can’t give up meat totally.
He was looking at some special device that processed raw food somehow. Sort of took the liquid out of it? Have you come across one of those?
Have you tried a yoga class? I feel so much fitter and my whole body shape is changing from regular practice. It also really helps with the mental attitude x

You’re back and going for a 3 week plan – that has got to be doable surely!!
You definitely went red Sarah – bless you. Missed having you around!!
Anyway why does the diet have to be complicated at this time of year when we have an abundance of fresh salad items that you can eat to your heart’s content, topped up with juices? Make it simple and easy and you will stick to it more!
Good luck honey

Ooh yes I’ve had Nakd bars, but not tried MULU and well I used to think one square would be enough but I’ve discovered that although I can’t eat as much as a ‘normal’ bar of chocolate I am still very capable of troughing a fair amount… ahh the perils of emotional eating.
I’ve not really eaten red meat for a few years now – just very occasionally and chicken only every so often. It’s funny – the more raw fruit and veg I eat, the less I want flesh, I just find it repulsive, the desire to eat it isn’t there any more. I do still want fish occasionally and writing this I’m fantasising about eating crab claws at the moment mmm but it’s funny, looking back at how I’ve transitioned to being mainly veggie – wasn’t a conscious decision really, just a natural progression with everything I’ve been learning.
Am wondering what ‘special device’ Ruf could have been looking at *lol* The most desirable gadgets in a raw foodie kitchen though would be a decent masticating juicer which is what I think Ruf was looking at (I wrote something on this recently here) and a powerful blender – in fact I’m about to write an article about that too.
Funny you should mention yoga too – I’ve been talking about trying yoga for aaaaages and yesterday I decided to do a search on Bikram Yoga as I hear so many good things about it. I’ve got three possible places to try so think I’ll try all of them and see which one I like the most. Now I just have to ensure I drink minimum 2 litres of water a day to ensure I’m hydrated and pick the first one to go to… *gulp*

Hahahah @ got to be doable surely. Yes! and with the carrot that it IS my 40th and that I AM horrified at where I am right now it has GOT to be. Also with the support and encouragement from yourself and others – thank you! – I’ve decided it’s going to happen.
True it doesn’t have to be complicated and I do naturally concoct ‘whatever’s in the fridge’ juices and smoothies naturally and am making sure I have plenty of fruit to grab and snack on but I do need to learn some easy dressings to whip up to jazz up my salads and start using my fricking dehydrator… lol.. I do find I start to crave different mouth feels so making some heavier dehydrated stuff will help that and be a lot cheaper than buying it. And it will also feel like I’m eating something naughty but it’ll still be healthier than the crap from the local co-op for sure! (omg why did writing that make me think of fish finger sandwiches?! hahahahah)

Go you! Psssst.. don get a blender yet! *smiles* Since you’re going for it again i better give youre b-day present sooner. So far the surprise. Haha but better to let you know now then you ending up having two blenders?
Anyways.. go go go, im behind you all the way, will secretly eat those nasty cookies when you are sleeping ;p To me counts you are happy and shining as the star you are. And you helped me so much eating healthier allready, thank you for that Sarah.
I’m very happy to see the site active again x

I have just shouted across the room at Ruf ‘Did you want a masticating juicer?’ Since our last conversation was about ftp clients, he’s looking totally confused and wondering whether this is yet another form of sexual deviation on my part ;P
He says it was a dehydrator but they were so expensive that he had to improvise by putting it in the oven on a really low heat overnight…
He does have a nice smoothie maker and soya milk maker. We found this big blackberry bush in his carpark yesterday which has not been noticed by anyone else. Mmmmm… foraging… it was all a bit Hugh Fernley Whittingstall

Re yoga!
You lucky lucky girl, you’re in Brighton!
Go see Gary Carter at Natural Bodies
http://www.naturalbodies.org.uk/pagefive.html
He’s an expert on getting the postures to suit your body which is invaluable when you go to the more aerobic yoga classes. So many will focus on being able to touch the ground, forgetting that this compromises what the stance is actually trying to achieve in terms of good posture.

hahaha that made me laugh loudly.. the possible sexual deviation must have grabbed his attention tho *grin* Yes dehydrators ain’t cheap, I coveted the idea of having one for aaaages, saved up and got one and have only used it about twice! I’m tewwible I know. It’s one of those things you think you MUST have if you get raw food recipe books but really, you don’t need one. There are some great online shops for buying dehydrated products ready made and yes, like Ruf deduced, you can use an oven on really low, maybe with the door open or, I’ve even read one lady putting her stuff on trays in her car on a baking hot day! It is a nice thing to have if you’re transitioning into the raw food diet though as it enables you to make denser foods without losing the active enzymes in your raw creations and is great for creating things if you ‘cook’ for others too.
I’m going to dig out three or four recipes and have a day where I create a load of stuff to fill up my dehydrator. Most economical and time saving way to use them really. I’ll probably video what I do (can’t promise it’ll go to plan lol), and upload them.
Ruf may also like to look into making nut milk (aka nut mylk – probably a word created by an American), instead of soya. If he has a blender they are dead easy, just remember to soak the raw nuts for a few hours beforehand to get rid of the enzyme inhibitors and make sure they are raw and organic. Put a handful in the blend with some pure spring or filtered water and whiz up. Depending on the nut used, you should then squeeze through a fine mesh bag or bit of muslin into a container to take all the bits out (especially for almond or brazil nuts) and voila you have nut milk. You can then sweeten with pitted dates in the blender, or add in fresh vanilla or extract (not essence) or raw caco or anything else you fancy. I’ll be doing a video on that as soon as I’ve got my mesh bag but if you google or look on http://www.karenknowler.com you’ll find lots.
Re. yeast – yes I totally agree, wheat products don’t agree with me anyway and when I do go mainly raw vegan I feel sooooo much better.. can’t wait to lose my jowls lol!

Thanks for this! It looks really interesting and I’ll have to go try his beginners class
Yes I am lucky being here – just along the coast in Shoreham by Sea so it’s easy to pop into Brighton! I’m going to try out my short list and do a drop in class on each place I think to see what one is right for me. Am thinking of trying Zumba too and maybe getting back into martial arts – I used to a mma class a few years ago and loved the challenge. Wonder what I’ll look like this time next year…

Have passed all that on to Ruf, he’s salivating over vanilla and choc nut milk

Awww well actually it is a week today! And ermm I should get on my scales but I’m not going to – will do it next week maybe. You have prompted me to start thinking about a new blog post which I will do later today… or maybe I should do it now before I get caught up in doing stuff for everyone else. Thanks for the poke
